Bernadine Marie Fryar Coleman of Crystal City passed away on December 7, 2021 at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio at the age of 77. Bernadine was born on May 21, 1944 in San Antonio, Texas to James Herbert and Helen Theresa (Rogers) Fryar. Bernadine married Kenneth Gordon Coleman, Jr. on March 12, 1966 in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico.
In addition to being a working mother, working in the banking, oilfield, and bookkeeping industry, she was a long-time member of the Uvalde de las Encinas Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), member of the First Families of Bexar County. Bernadine assisted her husband in his community services during his lifetime as Volunteer Fire Chief, Little League Coach, FFA Organization Volunteer, 4-H Organization Volunteer, and President of the Crystal City Cemetery Association.
Bernadine is survived by her daughters, Iona Elaine Coleman-Garcia (Rene) of Carrizo Springs, Frances Bernice Coleman-Britsch (Mark) of San Antonio, Becky Lea Coleman of Helotes, and Tonya Lauren Coleman of San Antonio; grandchildren, Coleman Steven Britsch, Wesle Gordon Britsch, and Ryan Ethan Garcia; brothers, Timothy M. Fryar (Sandy) of Lytle, and James H. Fryar III (Aubrey) of Port Aransas; sisters-in-law Sharon Kay Coleman Dozier (Bill) of Uvalde, Patti Elizabeth Coleman (Ronnie) of Carrizo Springs, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bernadine was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth of 54 years, parents, grandparents, and one sister Helen (Teddy) Theresa Stevens.
Visitation will begin on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Uvalde, Texas. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Uvalde, Texas. Interment will follow at Edgewood Cemetery in Batesville, Texas.
