Addie Jane Clayton Chaney went to be with the Lord, December 29, 2014. She will be laid to rest at the Vanderpool Cemetery next to her loving husband of sixty one years, Jack Burl Chaney of La Vernia, Texas. It will be a coming home for her. She was born right down the road at Vanderpool, Texas to Lola and Abner Wilson Clayton on February 6, 1925. She had a wonderful large family of four brothers and four sisters. Brothers James Clayton, Harold Clayton and Abner Wilson Clayton Jr Slick preceded her in death. Sisters who preceded her are Helen Schimmelpfenning and Bernice Kilborn. She is survived by her brother Finis Clayton and sisters Leota Hosman and Cora Mae Cochran. She enjoyed her family so much, she headed up the Clayton reunion for many years. When asked in her later years about all the work involved in a big reunion, she said, I loved every minute of it.
Jane moved to San Antonio after her graduation from Utopia High School in 1942. She got a job as a messenger at Ft. Sam Houston. In 1946, she met Jack Chaney, who had just returned from serving in World War II. It was love at first sight for both and they married on November 1 of that same year. They raised five children in the home built for them by Jack, outside of San Antonio on 33 acres. It was a wonderful place for raising children. The family often went for camping trips to the beautiful Sabinal River, where Jane had spent much time as a young girl. There are many fond memories of those trips. The family was very active at Northridge Park Baptist Church, where Jack was a deacon and Jane served on the Fellowship Committee. She and other generous souls prepared many a meal and helped with countless weddings and socials. The Northridge Park family was a second family to the Chaneys.
Jane once said of her own mom, Everybody loved Mother, and would do all they could to help her. This is true of Jane, as well. Everyone was fond of her, her wit and sense of humor which she had to the end, her encouraging spirit, her loving support. She will be missed by all of her family and friends here, who are also glad for her to be reunited with those above.
She is survived by her children, Pam Campbell and Craig, Sue Wunderlich and Curtis, Peggy Duvall and Ron, Bette Collier, Jack, Jr. and Terri Chaney. Grandchildren Shaye Molendyke and Troy, Katy Genser and Todd, Travis Armstrong and Stephanie, Heidi Coats and Travis, Jeremiah Duvall and Melissa, Ian Duvall, Ryan Collier, Liam and Ben Chaney. Greatgrandchildren, Addison and Dominick Molendyke, John Thomas Genser, Ava, Carter and Walker Armstrong, Jeffrey, Chloe, Maddie, Jack, Josie, and Noah Duvall, Lily and Henry Duvall.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Utopia Baptist Church with burial to follow in Vanderpool Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to The Baptist Church of Utopia Texas.
