Albert Davenport

Albert Irving Buck Davenport of Uvalde passed away on April 23, 2009 in Amistad Nursing Home at the age of 90. He was born on October 17, 1918 in Gustine, Texas to Tomo and Lessie Allen Davenport. He grew up in Sabinal and graduated from Sabinal High School in 1936. He attended the University of Houston. He worked for Civil Service in Hondo during World War II. In 1949, he moved to Uvalde and established the Texas Farm Store. He was well known in the livestock feed and grain industry. He also won many awards with Purina Feeds, Nutrina and Godbold. He won outstanding businessman in 1991 from the District Soil Conservation-Nueces, Frio and Sabinal. He was awarded Regional Business In
idual in 1992. He worked many years on the buyers committee for the Uvalde Junior Livestock Show and was named Honorary Superintendent in 1993. In later years he trained and ran Border Collies in stock dog trials. He placed in every trial and won many first place awards. Buck was a long time member of the Church of Christ. Of all the things he accomplished in his life, the most important to him was being able to help missionaries in India, the Philippines, and Russia. He never stopped trying to spread the word of God. He was preceded in death by his parents and only brother, Bobby John Davenport. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sydney Heard Davenport; daughter, Darlyne Stewart; daughters and son-in-laws, Marilyn and Galen Weber; Johnna and Louie Beltran all of Uvalde; and son and daughter-in-law, Jerald and Lisa Corder of Austin. He is also survived by grandchildren, Melony and Roy Fellows; Randy and Tina Klein; Sherlyn and Dan Bourne; Tammy and Kevin Bammert; Kevin and Tammy Crowsey; Caroline Beltran; Wes Beltran; Wyatt Corder; and Adele Corder. He is survived by great-grandchildren, Brett Bammert; Brittany Bammert; Zachary Bourne; Magen Crowsey; Misty Crowsey; Kolby Crowsey; Brandon Crowsey; Chase Fellows; Bryce Fellows; Jared Fellows; Briana Fellows; Kyle Klein; Conrad Klein; Kyra Klein; Coleman Klein; Garrett Crowsey; and Jacky Sprenger; and great-great-grandchildren, Landon Klein and Michelle Crowsey. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at 10:00 AM at the Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel in Uvalde with burial following in the Sabinal Cemetery. Mr. King Burney will officiate. Pallbearers will be Tommy Wimberley; Tuck Wiebush; H.T. Langford; Mike Voiles; Manza Hale; and Ralph Hesse.
