Alberta Colleen "Penny" Wimberley of Uvalde passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2021 in Uvalde, Texas, at her residence at the age of 84.
She was born on October 30, 1936 in Karnes City, Texas, to Annie Bell (Jalufka) and John Jonas.
Penny married Charles Ralph Wimberley on August 4, 1954 in Uvalde, Texas.
Penny was a generous and joyful servant. Throughout her nursing career she took calls outside business hours from countless family members, friends, and the community, which earned her the title “Dr. Penny”. Penny’s door was always open to anyone in need of a bed, a meal, or counseling, without prejudice and without judgment, although they might also receive a compassionate lecture with reference to “the Good Lord”.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Charles Ralph Wimberley of Uvalde, Texas; daughter, Sharon Carson and husband Terry C. Carson of Concan, Texas; three sons, Tommy Wimberley and wife Donna of Uvalde, Texas; Johnny Wimberley and wife Carla of Hondo, Texas; and Michael Wimberley and wife Barbara of Brackettville, Texas; sister, Jean Atkinson of Robstown, Texas; nine grandchildren, Katie Aaron of Katy, Texas, Luke Haag of Sabinal, Texas, Justin Wimberley of Uvalde, Texas, Brandon Wimberley of San Antonio, Texas, Bailey Wimberley of Uvalde, Texas, Charles Weston Wimberley of Hondo, Texas, Kevin Wimberley of Hondo, Texas, Casie Wimberley of Odessa, Texas, and Jay Paul Wimberley of San Antonio, Texas; fifteen great grandchildren; and numerous lifelong friends.
Penny is preceded in death by her parents, Annie Bell and John Jonas; and sisters, Goldie Ann Jones and Dorothy Mae Hensley.
Gentlemen serving as pallbearers will be Penny’s grandsons, Luke Haag, Justin Wimberley, Brandon Wimberley, Charles Weston Wimberley, Kevin Wimberley, and Jay Paul Wimberley.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 9:00 AM at Hillcrest Cemetery, followed by a graveside service and interment at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund, First Presbyterian Church, 300 N. Getty St., Uvalde, TX 78801.
