Alicia Reyes

September 22, 1931 — September 30, 2021

Uvalde

Alicia A. Reyes’ greatest passion in life was having a house full of family. Monday, Oct. 4, it will gather again to celebrate her life.

Alicia A. Reyes passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2021, the matriarch of a family numbering more than 50. She was born September 22, 1931 in Uvalde, Texas, where she resided her entire life and where she married Lupe T. Reyes on March 1, 1949.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Lupe T. Reyes, sons baby Eloy and Eloy Reyes, and four brothers -- Gilbert, Arnulfo, Octaviano and Armando Arredondo.

Survivors are her children, son Pat Reyes and wife Sonja; daughter Brenda Portis and husband Bob, and daughter Azannette Cyprian and husband Frank; sisters Aurora Ruiz, Olga Diaz and Dora Bernal; 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Alicia had many loves. She started every day with her favorite meal, breakfast, and made the best coffee, bacon and chorizo with eggs. Breakfast was an all-day occasion. Whether her family woke up in the morning or afternoon, she was eager to feed everyone and enjoyed conversations around her kitchen table.

Family would come in town from all over, especially during hunting season, and she would cook venison and sides -- her broccoli cheese rice casserole was especially famous. It was a legacy of her late husband, Lupe. Alicia gave loving attention to her grandchildren and would share wonderful family stories, which were among her greatest and cherished gifts to family.

You always could count on Alicia to share the fruits of her prized lemon tree, show her collection of pitchers, and shine brightly wearing her signature color red along with her favorite pair of Keds.

Alicia was a dedicated employee of the Uvalde Consolidated School District serving as a teaching assistant, and her evenings were reserved for her novellas, followed by Nancy Grace. After her retirement, she volunteered at Uvalde Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Templo Cristiano.

Services are at Rushing Estes Knowles Mortuary at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 4th. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Viewing is Sunday, October 3rd from 2:00 - 9:00 p.m. Prayer Service is Sunday, October 3rd, 7:00 p.m.
