Alvis Cardwell, Jr.

Alvis Lowery Cardwell, Jr., 85, passed away March 31, 2020 in Crystal City, Texas.  Alvis was born in Refugio, TX February 12, 1935 to Alvis Lowery Cardwell and Neri Golden Street Cardwell and was their only surviving child.  The family moved back to Uvalde, TX not long after he was born.  Alvis graduated high school in Uvalde in 1955 and then attended A&I at Kingsville and after graduating moved back to Zavala County.  He lived an adventurous life as a young man, cowboying for a living both in Texas and Mexico before he married and settled down to ranch in Batesville.  Alvis was a quiet person who enjoyed raising cattle, was a talented roper and loved Kelpie dogs.  He is survived by his first wife, Judy Lowrance of Abilene, TX and two children, Rachael Coggins and spouse Bret of Crystal City, Texas and Jeffery Alvis Cardwell of Batesville, Texas.  He was preceded in death by his parents and an older sister who died shortly after her birth.
Cremation is under the direction of Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.
