Amelia Hernandez

Amelia Garza Hernandez of Batesville passed away on February 19, 2020 in Uvalde Healthcare and Rehab at the age of 85.  She was born on December 25, 1934 in Batesville to Petra (Ortiz) and Julian Rodriguez.  She is survived by four sons, Daniel Garza and wife, Diana, and Manuel Garza, Jr. and wife Eva, all of Batesville; and Edward Garza and wife, Laura, and Julian Garza, all of Uvalde; five daughters, Ernestina Garza; Manuela Ayala and husband, Javier; Sulema Medrano and husband, Lupe; and Diana Nava and husband, Edwin, all of Batesville; and Esmeralda Hernandez and husband, Johnny, Jr. of Camp Wood; daughter-in-law, Gloria Hernandez of Camp Wood; five stepdaughters, Noemi Perez and husband, Cayetano of Lytle; Ruth Zamarripa and husband, Daniel of Laredo; Bertha Cuillo of California; Paula Salinas and husband, Roberto of Idaho; and Manuela Contreras and husband, Ricardo of Utah; 33 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, 21 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; two husband, Manuel Garza, Sr. and Leonardo Hernandez, Sr.; sisters, Francisca Elizondo and Concepcion Luna; brother, Mateo Rodriguez; two stepsons, Johnny Hernandez, Sr. and Leonardo Hernandez, Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 24, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary with burial to follow in Batesville Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Jonathan Castillo, Danny Garza, Jr., Arron Gonzales, Jose Ayala, Juan Medrano, Michael Nava, Royce Gonzales, and Joseph Ayala.
