Anita Chapoy Garcia went to be with her Heavenly Father on March 19, 2018 at the age of 90. She was born on September 13, 1927 in Del Rio, Texas to James and Adela Chapoy. She married Adrian Garcia on April 30, 1954.
She was a loving and caring mother to her four children; James Garcia of Keller, Lillian Newport and husband, David of El Paso, Ruth Roman and husband, John of El Paso, and Linda Contreras and husband, Carlos of Uvalde; seven grandchildren: David A. Newport, Kellie Newport, Sarah Herndon (Spencer), Dante Contreras, Jonathan Roman (Stacie), Michaela Roman and James Roman (Valerie) and one great-granddaughter Ellie Rose Roman.
Anita grew up in Del Rio with her four brothers and four sisters and was a graduate of Del Rio High School where she was an active member of the Girl Scouts and Sigma Phi Honor Society. She was offered an academic scholarship to East Texs Baptist University. While living in Del Rio she did research for several years for the Bilingual Education Program of the University of Michigan.
For 14 years she was a loving and dedicated teacher for the Abilene Independent School District's Home-Start Program.
Unable to attend college after high school graduation, as a mature adult she attended and graduated from Cisco Junior College making the President's List every semester, graduating with highest honors and was named the Outstanding Student in Education. She was then offered a scholarship to attend Tarleton State University.
Anita's greatest joy was serving the Lord and she did so gladly for over 70 years in various positions. She was a member of Iglesia Bautista Unida of Uvalde and deeply loved the ladies who came to her home every week for their Thursday Bible and Crafts Club.
Besides her children and grandchildren she is also survived by two sisters; Azeneth Dominguez of San Angelo and Adela Brown of Warner Robins, Georgia; sister-in-law Hope Chapoy of San Antonio as well as numerous relatives from Uvalde, Del Rio, San Antonio and California and many cherished friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Samuel, her brothers and two sisters.
A worship and praise service will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 7:00 pm at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 22 at 10:00 am also at Rushing-Estes-Knowles. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David Newport, Carlos Contreras, David A. Newport, Jonathan Roman, Dante Contreras and James Roman. Honorary pallbearers are Juan Jacquez, Antonio Villasana and her friends from the Thursday Bible and Crafts Club.
