Ann Barkley Zimerman Mom giver of life, was given life on August 16, 1942 in Natchez Mississippi. Moms great adventure began after her loving parents, Sam and Bess Zimerman, chose her as the first daughter when they adopted her at five days old. She later welcomed her two younger sisters, Nancy and Kay, and the Zimerman family set out on a worldwide adventure. Moms family moved extensively chasing the oilfield, and she lived in thirteen states before she was three years old. The family followed their dads career as a geophysicist with the American Arabian Oil Company Aramco to the Middle East. Mom spent her grade school years in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, and she attended high school in Switzerland. As a child, Mom spoke French as her first language, followed by Arabic, and finally English. Mom returned to the states when she was 18 to attend Texas Christian University. After college, she moved to Denver and worked for Conoco where she met and married Steven Wright. Mom gave life to her four children Michael, John, Amy, and Tom Wright while living in the heartland of America in Sublette, Kansas. In 1977, Mom married her second husband, Nick Cardwell Finley, Jr. and moved to Uvalde, Texas. In Uvalde, Nick Cardwell Finley, Sr. and Ellen Finley were added as parentsinlaws, and she gained two new daughters, Blair and Bess Finley. As the kids got older, Mom entered the workforce, first as a secretary to Gene Kincaid, and then as a secretary with the Uvalde County Extension Office where she worked for four years. Mom then worked as a probation officer with the 38th Judicial District and retired in 1999.
After retirement, Mom enjoyed chasing grandkids, reuniting with other Aramco Brats, reading anything and everything, spending time with her family, and collecting stray dogs, kids, and people.
Moms family grew as the kids started marrying, and Mom celebrated the additions of Cristina, Kim, and Kresta Wright as her daughtersinlaw and David Little, Todd Dorris, and Sean Kidd as her sonsinlaw. True to form, Mom loved each one of them as her own and she was loved by each of them as their own. This gift of life continued with grandchildren Stephen Park and wife Jennifer, Connor, Kenna and Hannah Wright, Cargil and Lawson Wright, Ava and Holland Little, Graysen and Madison Wright, Ella and Brynnan Dorris with Tate Graham Dorris coming soon, and Emma Lou Kidd. They loved their Granny and their Granny loved them In additions to kids and grandkids, Mom was loved by too many nieces, nephews, cousins, and inlaws to list.
Mom did not make any distinctions on who was called family, and many of her childrens friends knew her only as Mom. Mom had a soft spot as big as Texas, and she became Mom to many with her warm smile and her loving heart. Mom was always ready with a hot meal, a kind word, or a place to stay for whoever needed it.
Mom was truly a giver of life. On Monday, April 15, 2013 Mom started her next big adventure when she received the gift of eternal life and joined her parents and her sister Kay in the glory and grace of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Thank you, Mom, for giving life a wonderful, loving life to so many.
