Annie Lee Ramsey Nickerson DuBose, 92, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2012 in Kennedale, Texas.

Annie Lee was born in a log cabin on Kent Creek, in the hills above Leakey, Texas on April 18, 1920 to Reynolds Allen Ramsey II and June Burdett Ramsey. She grew up on ranches in the area, spending 10 of her early years on her beloved Prade Ranch. The family later moved to Uvalde where, after graduating from Uvalde High School, she worked at the First State Bank. On December 22, 1941 she married Warren Jacob Nick Nickerson, D.V.M., of San Antonio, and worked as a secretary at the Norfolk Naval Base in Virginia while he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In 1953 they moved to El Paso, Texas. Nick predeceased her on August 4, 1978. She had managed his veterinary practice and continued to do so for Dr. Wiley Heath, who took over the practice.

On May 31, 1980 she married rancher Winford Odell DuBose of Uvalde, Texas, thus combining their two families, who continue to be grateful for this to this day. He passed away on September 17, 2000.

Annie Lee is survived by daughters Anne Nickerson and husband Dr. Eugene John Valentine of Portsmouth, Ohio June Nickerson Jordan and husband The Rev. Terence Jordan of Grand Prairie, TX Charlotte Nickerson Travland and husband Lewis Travland of Alpine, TX Mary Nickerson DeArman and husband Sam DeArman of Albuquerque, NM her beloved Korean son Dr. Lee Woo Jung and wife Ae Sook of Seoul, South Korea stepdaughters Jane DuBose Dreyfus and husband Seymour Dreyfus of San Antonio, TX and Marcy DuBose Gauntt and husband Dr. Charles Gauntt of Burnet, TX and stepson Thomas Browne DuBose and wife Estelle DuBose of Uvalde, TX and their extended families grandchildren Catherine Cowart Bahls and husband Alex Bahls of Bryan, TX Michael Paul Edman of Denver, CO Anna Lucas Keyser of Huntersville, NC, George Faithon Lucas, of Austin, TX, Daniel John Valentine and Michael Warren Valentine of Portsmouth, OH greatgrandchildren Lauren Denaye Miller of Phoenix, AZ Colton Ty Miller of Bryan, TX Mariel Alexandra Keyser and Julia Avery Keyser of Huntersville, NC Dayla Marie Valentine, Brennan Malakyii Russell, Tyrin Isaiah Lewis, and Tyreke Deshawn Lewis of Portsmouth, OH, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by her brother Brigadier General Ret. Frank A. Ramsey and wife Mary of Uvalde, TX and her brotherinlaw Harold L. Nickerson, of San Francisco, CA.

She was predeceased by brother Robert A. Ramsey, and sisters Margaret Ramsey Creswell, Charlotte Ramsey Dabney Smylie and June Ramsey Richardson.

Annie Lee was a member of First Presbyterian Church in El Paso, Texas from 19531980, and a member of First United Methodist Church in Uvalde, TX from 1980 to her death.

Annie Lee had a boundless curiosity about the world and all its peoples, and loved to learn new things and share her knowledge and talents with family and friends. She made it possible for many loved ones to travel abroad to learn new languages and gain new perspectives, and felt blessed as a senior citizen to be able to travel to Canada, England, Ireland, Scotland and South Korea. She was a person of deep Christian faith, who taught Sunday School and did many other good works within her church and community. She was an exceptional homemaker whose talents with needlework and cooking wonderful foods enriched many lives, comforted many a sick person, welcomed many a new baby into the world, and brightened corners in many homes.

Her family honors her deeply for her values, hard work, and sense of joy and wonder at all things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 14, at First United Methodist Church in Uvalde, Pastor Tim Farenthold officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be at RushingEstesKnowles Mortuary from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 13.

Pallbearers will be George Faithon Lucas, Michael Paul Edman, Ray Allen Dabney, Walter Davis Dabney III, Walter Ray Richardson and Winford Armistead DuBose. Honorary Pallbearers will be Randal Reynolds Ramsey, Ramsay Allen Ramsey, Tom Virgil Richardson, John Avery Smylie, William Burdett Smylie, Peter Winford Conrad, Thomas Vinson Conrad and Andrew DuBose Conrad.

Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, Uvalde, Texas, or to Serenity Inn, P.O. Box 1236, Kennedale, TX 76060.
