Antonio Zapata of Uvalde passed away on February 8, 2016 in Amistad Nursing Home at the age of 83. He was born on August 10, 1932 in Tula Tamaulipas, Mexico to Teofilo Gobea and Maria Cruz Zapata. He is survived by his wife, Amalia Garcia of Uvalde; three daughters, Cipriana Geishler of Uvalde; Ofelia Hernandez and husband, Pedro Hernandez of Matamoros, Mexico; and Susana Zapata and husband, Manuel Zamora of Uvalde; eight sons, Felipe Zapata and wife, Virginia, Blas Zapata and wife, Dolores, and Homero Zapata, all of Matamoros, Mexico; Javier Zapata and wife, Carmen of Brownsville; Antonio Zapata and wife, Gabriela and Joel Zapata and wife, Cristina, all of Uvalde; Miguel Zapata of Georgia; and Servando Zapata of Plainview; two brothers, Francisco Mireles and Vicente Mireles, both of Plainview; two sisters, Josefina Mireles and Altagracia Olvera, both of Matamoros, Mexico; 28 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Abraham Hernandez. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 12, 2016 2:00 PM at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Zapata, Joel Zapata, Oscar Cervantes, Oscar Ramirez, Eduardo Garcia, and Jose Antonio Zapata.
