Arthur Dennis Unruh was born to Elmer H. and Melinda Nightengale Unruh, April, 8, 1923 Greensburg Kansas in Kiowa County. He peacefully passed to his reward Sept 4, 2014.
He spent his childhood years in Kansas, then at age 16 moved to Nevada, Missouri. Dennis received his formal education at East Banner School in Copeland Kansas.
At age 16 he had a new birth experience and was baptized into the church of god in Christ Mennonite on Jan. 29, 1939 by Minister Harry D. Wenger.
On Dec. 21, 1946, Dennis married Marjorie L. Schmidt who was his loving companion for over 67 years. To this union were born two sons, Bruce and Donavon.
They spent the first years of married life in Kansas, and California, then moving to Butler Missouri which was home for 55 years. He was an electrician and carpenter in the Butler community for many years.
In Dec 1954 together with his wife Marjorie they consecrated their lives to God, to which he remained faithful until his departure.
On Jan. 23, 1957 Dennis was called to the gospel ministry. He was ordained by Minister Frank Haynes. Dennis preach many evangelistic messages conference wide and was a loving pastor to his congregation at Rich Hill Missouri.
Dad felt the call of saving souls for Christ. HE continued this mission until the very close of his life witnessing to his caregivers and those that dropped in to visit. Along with his wife Marjorie they spent many years in foreign countries spreading the gospel. Being the first long term missionaries to Nigeria Africa.
In Sept, 2008 Dennis and Marjorie moved to Uvalde Texas to be near their children and grandchildren. The family felt so blessed to have these last years with Dad and grandpa.
Cherishing many golden memories are his loving wife Marjorie two sons Bruce and wife, Marilyn, Uvalde, Texas Donavon and wife, Priscilla, La Pryor, Texas nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren one brother Eldon and wife, Elnora, Naples Florida one sister in law Joann Unruh, Butler Missouri two brother in laws Freddie Schmidt and wife, Peggy, Hutchison Kansas and Paul Unruh, Hutchinson Kansas.
He was proceeded in death by his two parents Elmer and Melinda Unruh, three brothers, Dale Unruh, Ivan Unruh and Henry Allen Unruh, two sisters, Neva Schmidt, and Winnona Unruh.
Dennis left us all this message written by his hand, I will see you in the morning meet me there.
Burial will be in Bethany Mennonite Church Cemetery, Rich Hill, MO.
