Aurelio V. "Willie" Mata, Sr. of Uvalde passed away on September 7, 2018 in Uvalde Memorial Hospital at the age of 75. He was born in Uvalde on July 17, 1943 to Concepcion "Concha" (Valverde) and Hilario Mata. He married Guadalupe Lira on September 19, 1966 in Mexico. He is survived by his wife of almost 52 years; two daughters, Brenda Hidalgo and husband, Daniel of San Antonio, and Criselda Vasquez and husband, Mario of Uvalde; two sons, Aurelio V. Mata, Jr. of Austin, and Jeremy Andrew Mata and girlfriend, Sydney Orona of San Marcos; two sisters, Dora Sanchez of Uvalde and Dolores Cuellar of Humble; brother, Inez Mata of Uvalde; four grandchildren, Philip M. Vasquez, Aaron N. Vasquez, Amanda Hidalgo, and Alejandro I. Mata; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Esmeralda Mata; two brothers, Juan Mata and Martin Mata; and two sisters, Margarita Chacon and Carmen Garza. A rosary will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. Cremation is under the direction of Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.
