Jolene Keeney, 82, of Uvalde, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on December 10, 2023.
Jolene was born on May 20, 1941, in Crystal City to Elmer and Josephine Petty. She was the 5th born of 14 children and helped care for numerous younger brothers and sisters.
Jolene met her beloved Stanley on a blind date and they were married on June 6, 1958 in La Pryor. After living briefly in Uvalde and Del Rio, Stanley was stationed at Fort Lee, Virginia; he and Jolene welcomed their first two children there. They returned to Uvalde and welcomed their third child. They remained faithfully devoted to each other for 65 years.
Jolene was also devoted to her family, friends, and community. She is remembered as a hardworking and faithful mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for over 35 years. She was a Camp Director for Girls Scouts, a Boy Scout Troop leader, and a Sunday School secretary at her church. She remained fiercely independent throughout her life. She loved road runners and blue bonnets, and she enjoyed having her grandchildren stay with her every summer.
Jolene is survived by her husband, Stanley; her daughter, Roxanne (Wayne) Jarman, and son Justin Keeney; three brothers and four sisters; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her son, Mark, and six brothers and sisters.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary on Friday, December 15 at 4:00 PM.
