Barbara Sutherland

Barbara Jane "Bobsy" Cunningham Sutherland, 78, of Uvalde, Texas died on January 31, 2019, in San Antonio, Texas.
She was born on March 6, 1940, in Uvalde, to Georgia Genevieve (Firebaugh) and Dr. George Bryson Cunningham.
She married William Depriest "Dub" Sutherland IV on January 1 , 1957, in Ciudad Acuna, Mexico. They enjoyed 62 years together in matrimony.
Bobsy was raised in Uvalde. She graduated from Uvalde High School in May of 1958, and then attended Sul Ross University in Alpine. Two years later, Bobsy and Dub moved to Austin, where she worked for the Department of Public Safety and started to raise the first of their three sons. In 1962, they moved to Victoria, and, with the addition of two more sons, Bobsy stayed home to take care of their growing family. Job opportunities brought the family to Bay City in 1965, where Bobsy continued an active life supporting her husband, raising three boys, working in the medical field, and eventually taking care of her aging parents. In 1977, Bobsy joined her husband in establishing and owning their own business, Ag. Equipment Inc., which brought the family to San Antonio. Bobsy worked tirelessly, mastering financial and administrative duties, which complimented Dub's relational and operational skills. A few years later they opened a second store in their childhood home of Uvalde, eventually consolidating the two stores into the one Uvalde location. This allowed them to be closer to family, friends, and to ranch. Bobsy spent the next 29 years living, working in, and supporting the Uvalde community. Bobsy actively and lovingly supported her family and managed their agricultural and ranching businesses up until the day she passed.
When not working, Bobsy enjoyed being with her family, traveling, and gardening. She attended the Church of the Ascension in Montell. Bobsy shared frequent rural and cross-country excursions with Dub as part of operating their businesses. Fiercely supportive of family and friends, her grace, love, tenacity, and generosity will be missed.
She is survived by her husband, Dub, and their three sons: William Depriest Sutherland V "Cinco" and wife Tammi of Uvalde, George Brian Sutherland and wife Sandra of The Woodlands, and Stephen Scott Sutherland of Berthoud, Colorado; nine grandchildren: William Depriest Sutherland VI and wife Brandi, Ross Sutherland and wife Jennifer, Heath Sutherland and wife Macy, Joshua Sutherland, Samuel Sutherland and wife Macey, Zachary Sutherland, Kerry Sutherland, Chandler Sutherland and Colt Sutherland; three great grandchildren: Sophie, Sloane and Liam Sutherland; and one sister, Sue Cunningham Johnston, and her husband Wayne.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson Matthew Sutherland.
A memorial service will be held at The Church of the Ascension in Montell on Sunday, February 17th, at 2:00 pm.
