Mr. Bernel Mendeke of Uvalde, Tx. passed away September 5, 2007 at the Main Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Tx. at the age of 86.
He was born January 24, 1921 in Brackettville, Tx. to William Katarine Mendeke.
He was married to Cresencia Reyes in Uvalde, Tx. on March 30, 1946.
He is survived by his wife, Cresencia Chris Mendeke of Uvalde, Tx.; sister, Mozel Mozie Mendeke of California nephew, Charles Joseph Mendeke of Uvalde, Tx. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Thelma Talamantez Doris Arnold 2 brothers, August Sonny Mendeke William Willy Mendeke, Jr.
Mr. Mendeke had been in the community for 25 years was a real estate land broker. He was a member of the American Legion; Helping Hand; a director at the Uvalde Golf Club Association.; was a charter member of the Elks Club in Hawthorne, Ca. He was also a member of Los Coyotes Country Club in Fullerton, Ca. He enjoyed bringing Christmas gifts to the Indian Boarding Schools; helping the under priviledge obtain scholarships and helped the community with medical needs and supplies. In Buena Park, Baja, Ca., he helped the catholic orphanage with food. He was director of Buena Park Board of Realtors for several terms was also on the Appraisal and Arbitration Committee for the Real Estate Board.
A rosary will be held at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary on Friday at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at 9:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Fr. Wieslaw Iwaniec will be officiating.
Pallbearers will be Charles Bernel Mendeke; Frank Mendeke; August Mendeke; Michael Blackmore; Pat Dodson Jacob Tafolla.
