Bertha Carmichael

July 8, 1935 — August 30, 2017

Late in the evening of August 29th, on her late sister Mary Louise' birthday, Bertha Elizabeth Anderson Carmichael, known as Bea to us all, left us and joined her parents, sister and brothers.
Born July 8, 1935 as the youngest child of Mary "Lois" Nelson Anderson and James Settle Anderson, Bea enjoyed a full and long life, always affecting those she encountered in a good, caring and positive way during her journey through life. Wife to Alan, mother to Ron, Wayne and Anna, Nanna to Logan and Lindsey, Bea will continue to live on through them.
Bea studied at University of Texas where she met Alan and they married September 25, 1954 in Mineral Wells, TX.
She has lived in Houston, Austin, Mineral Wells, Puerto Rico, Germany, Corpus Christi and Sabinal but called Uvalde home.
For 44 years, she worked beside her husband in their beloved Uvalde Rexall's Drug Store where she oversaw the 30+ seat soda fountain and wonderful gift section. It was a place for all ages to gather in friendship over coffee, hamburgers or hot fudge sundaes. She made sure there was something special for everyone who came in.
Bea was raised in the Episcopal Church and called St. Phillips in Uvalde her spiritual home. Her weekly prayer groups and their members are still going strong after decades together and are a source of deep comfort and strength to each other.
Her eldest brother Arthur loved researching their family genealogy and inspired Bea to do the same. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, The Daughters of the Republic of Texas and the Huguenot Society.
She has always been an animal lover and was part of the opening of Uvalde's first Animal Shelter.
She was an avid reader but her biggest love was travel. The family loved ski trips, canoe rafting trips and she was able to visit Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, France, England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, Canada, Mexico and Greece.
She is preceded in death by her siblings: Arthur Anderson, Mary Louise Anderson Smith, James "Buddy" Anderson.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Alan Carmichael, Sr. and their children A. Ron Carmichael, Jr and his wife Gina of Lago Vista, TX, Wayne Carmichael and his wife Rhonda of Ft. Collins, Colorado and Anna Carmichael of Uvalde. She also leaves her grandchildren Logan Rowe and his daughter Zoe and Lindsey Carmichael Blackwell and her husband Jonathan Blackwell as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at St Phillips 343 North Getty St, Uvalde on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. with reception to follow at St. Phillips parish Hall.
