Betty Jane Gonder Carnes, 85,went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 17, 2014 at Uvalde Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born June 10, 1929 in Winter Park, Florida to Norma Wolfkill Gonder and Harold Gonder. She devoted her life to being a homemaker, mother, and grandmother. She also loved her cats who kept her company throughout her life. She is survived by her son, James Ray Carnes Jr. and wife Amy of Uvalde, three grandchildren, Jami Rae Carnes of Uvalde, Jodi Carnes Strickland and husband Joe of Sabinal, Texas, and Miller James Carnes of Uvalde and niece, Susan Joy Smith of Orlando, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Winnie Smith. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Uvalde with burial to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Bro. Jim Jackson will officiate. Pallbearers are Steve Stoy, Buck Laning, Joe Strickland, Blaine Bennett, Bill Ruhmann, and Chris Carper. Honorary pallbearers are James Hensarling, Billy Winn, Jim Williamson, Herbert Carper and Miller Carnes. Memorial donations may be made to Uvalde Hospice, First Baptist Church, Uvalde Humane Society or the charity of your choice.
