Betty Faye Felts

Betty Felts departed this world on September 3, 2024 after a brief illness.

Betty Faye Robinson was born on March 27, 1931 in Del Rio, Texas to Doris Dee Davenport and Leo Henry Robinson. Her family moved to Concan and then the Sabinal area where she and her sisters enjoyed an idyllic childhood. The daughter of a government trapper, she learned to hunt, fish and trap and loved being on horseback. Camping out and running a trap line was a much-loved part of life.

She attended school at Trio and later Sabinal. Betty lived her high school years to the fullest. Loving and excelling in all track events, she won Regional in four events as well as playing basketball and serving as twirler and band member. Her friendli-ness and natural beauty earned her titles of Most Attractive and Football Sweetheart. Featured in many articles in Cypress, the school newspaper, she also had the entertaining title of Gossip Columnist and filled her page with humor. Theater and Home Economics were among her school year loves.

After graduating from a well-rounded high school career, she married the love of her life, Hubert Felts, on June 30, 1949. Baby Linda Kay joined them the following June and Ronny rounded out the family in 1953. They moved to Uvalde and Betty became involved in every aspect of her children’s lives, helping with Sunday School, Boy Scouts, even serving for several years as the demanding Girl Scout Cookie Chairman. An amazing homemaker, she cooked three meals a day, kept an immaculate home and yard, as well as doing gardening and sewing. In 1979, they built their forever home at Betty’s favorite spot on a hill above Sabinal. There, Hubert and Betty built a haven for their family and loved having grandchildren visit to enjoy acres of adventure, playing along the river as well as in the backyard pool and being awakened to the smell of her blue-berry muffins. A lifelong cook, she earned the nickname of Betty Crocker and was locally famous for her Carrot Cake and German Chocolate Cake and always had those, along with the grand-children’s favorite Chocolate Delight and Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies, in the freezer, ready for any occasion.

Blessed with opportunities to travel with friends and business associates, Betty and Hubert enjoyed exploring the United States and abroad. First Christian Church in Uvalde and then Central Christian Church in Sabinal found Betty to be a faithful member, participating in many church functions and in the Greater Emmaus Community. She treasured her faith and her church family. Early mornings always found her at the kitchen table with her devotional material and her prayer list, inviting any visitor to join her. A true servant, she was happiest helping others, using her God-given talents to bless her family and community. After Hubert’s passing in 2014, she lived alone, taking care of “the place” as best she could. This pioneer-spirited woman survived polio, breast cancer and brain surgery so, of course, she didn’t need help! Moving to Veranda Assisted Living in 2023, she enjoyed sitting on the front porch, visiting with old and new friends and visits from her family.

She is survived by daughter Kay Brieden and husband Les of Uvalde; son Ronny Felts and wife Kim of Boerne; grandchildren Blair Dorris and husband Todd, Bess Kidd and husband Sean, Lee Brieden and wife Kim, Jordan Felts and wife Rainey, Kelley Felts and Abby Felts and husband Richard Huber; great grandchildren Ella Dorris, Brynnan Dorris, Emma Kidd, Graham Dorris, Jacy Kidd, Kylee Brieden, Porter Felts, Kinsley Brieden and Rawley Felts; sister Mary Ane West and husband Milton. A multitude of nieces, nephews and treasured friends will miss her brilliant smile. Sabinal’s angel, Anabel Llanes, will always have a special place in our hearts for her special care that enabled Betty to live at home.

Her parents, sister Norma Mitchell and her husband Bill, daughter-in-law Jody Felts and infant twin brothers preceded her in death.

Pallbearers are Lee Brieden, Jordan Felts, Todd Dorris, Sean Kidd, Richard Huber and Tommy Azopardi.

Memorials may be sent to Central Christian Church, P. O. Box 116, Sabinal, Texas 78881.
