Bobbie Lou Kirkpatrick Fly, 89, of Uvalde, TX, passed away December 19, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas.
She was born in Portland, Texas, September 30, 1929 to Zuma Walthall Kirkpatrick and Alice Hamilton Kirkpatrick. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Sterling H Fly, Jr. and her grandson, Colton Sterling Rue. Bobbie is survived by her four children: Marguerite Fly Bevis, husband Jim of Belize; Sterling Harper Fly III (Chip) and wife D'nese of Utopia; Suzanne Fly Rue and husband, Justin of Uvalde; and Bruce Hamilton Fly, and wife Susan of Boerne; eleven grandchildren, Arran Bevis and wife Alison; Lacy Bevis Smith and husband David; Heather Bevis Weholt and husband, 1st Lt. Chris; Trevor Bevis and wife Brianna; Sterling H. Fly IV (Sage) and wife Margaux, Seth Fly, Emily Rue, Amber Fly, Mitchell Fly and wife Ana; Monica Wayman and husband Glen; and Jacob Fly; seventeen great-grandchildren: Sierra Bevis, Savannah Bevis, Ryder Bevis, Hunter Smith, Colin Martin, Amelia Bevis, Noah Bevis, Audrey Bevis, Jackson Vincent, Steven Colton Rue, Mason Wayman, Mackensie Wayman, Clarice Wayman, Chelsea Wayman, Olivia Fly, Allison Fly, and Isabella Fly; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bobbie graduated from Mary Hardin Baylor in 1945, then worked at the Robert B. Green Hospital as a registered nutritionist. This is where she met her future husband, Sterling Fly., Jr. They married February 23, 1952 in Portland, Texas. They were living in White Sands New Mexico when they had their first child, Marguerite. They then moved to Uvalde, Texas where Sterling set us his first medical practice as a general family physician.
Bobbie enjoyed reading and writing. She served as librarian at the First United Methodist Church (FUMC) for many years. Bobbie was a historian. She researched the history of the FUMC and as a result of her work, the church was awarded a historical marker. In her younger years, she helped her children with Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Brownies, and Girl Scouts. Later she helped her husband at his office and in his service as Regent of the University of Texas.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Uvalde, followed by burial at the Uvalde Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a reception after the service to be held in the Weston Hall of the Methodist Church.
Pallbearers will be Arran Bevis, Mitchell Fly, Jacob Fly, Sage Fly, Seth Fly, and Emily Rue.
