Carmen Rivera

Carmen Luz Rivera of Uvalde passed away on July 7, 2022 at her residence at the age of 65. She was born on July 18, 1956 in New York City, New York to Afortunado and Ramona (Vellez) Rivera.

She is survived by daughters, Barbara Haag and husband Jonathan and Amy Salazar of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Meaghan and Cole Haag, Anna Rodriguez, and Edward Salazar; great-grandchildren, Aspyn, Hadleigh, and Lilian Holland. She was preceded in death by her parents and her wife, Debra Lynn Matull-Rivera.

Carmen loved animals, spending time with her pets and even fostering. She proudly served her country in the U.S. Army for 8 years. Carmen dedicated 21 years of service as a corrections officer, with her last years serving at the Torres unit in Hondo, Texas.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Hillcrest cemetery.
