Cecil Edward Davis passed away peacefully Friday, June 5, 2015, one week shy of his 61st wedding anniversary with Virginia Wood Davis. He was born in San Angelo, TX February 17,1931 to Catherine Cox Davis and Cecil Edward Davis. Soon afterwards, they moved to San Blas, Mexico where the family ranched. Cecil rode on a train by himself to Dallas to attend first grade. The family moved to Montell where he learned sheep and goat ranching and fence building. He graduated from Texas A&M College and served in the US Army Field Artillery during the Korean War. He was a farmer, a rancher, a banker, a Real Estate Broker, a Real Estate Appraiser, for many years the only VA appraiser in south Texas, and an entrepreneur. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Wood Davis, his sister, Nancy Davis Ham, his children Susan Davis Gerhardt (David) of San Antonio, Mary Anna Davis Murphy (Michael) of St. Petersburg, Florida, Robert Edward Davis (Mary Ann) of Victoria and James Harper Davis (Tip) of Corpus Christi. His many nieces and nephews, 11 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren remember him as Honey Coot. Services will be at the Montell Methodist Church at 9:30 a.m. June 13th. A reception will follow at the family's Montell house. Donations may be made to El Progreso Library or a charity of one's choice.
