Cecil Hutson, Sr.

June 11, 1937 — March 18, 2015

Cecil A. Hutson, Sr. of Montell passed away at his residence on March 18, 2015 at the age of 77. He was born to Ben and Lucille (Sweeten) Hutson on June 11, 1937 in Houston, Texas. He married Joyce Thomas on July 23, 1960 in Houston. Cecil was a lifelong evangelist of the church of Christ and served as an elder in the Lord's church. His passion for the Word of God was contagious and he influenced countless souls. He loved God's word and teaching it to others and brought others to Christ by his faithful example and dedication to sharing God's love. Cecil had a love and dedication to young people. He served on the Child Welfare Board in Brazoria County and he and his wife cared for many foster children in their home. He directed a session at Bandina Christian Youth Camp for over 50 years and accompanied teens on mission trips into Mexico. Cecil was a missionary in Australia and established the first congregation of the Lord's church in Canberra, Australia. He shared the gospel around the world including, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of 54 years of Montell; daughters, Melanie Travis and husband, Paul, of Angleton, Texas and Cheryl Selby and husband, Doug, of Hurst, Texas; sons, Cecil Hutson, Jr. and wife, Barbie, of Mesquite, Texas, Charles Hutson and wife, Dana, of Athens, Texas, Derek Hutson and wife, Lori, of Round Rock, Texas, and Michael Hutson of Katy, Texas; sister, Barbara Hicks of San Marcos. Cecil was called Grampy by 13 grandchildren: Taylor, Sydney, Andy and Tiffany, Hutt and Erin, Tabitha, Miles and Reagan, Ben, McKenna, Carson, Logan, Braeden, Lexi and Simon. Grampy was also anticipating the arrival of his first great-grandchild in October. Many other children have claimed him as their "Grampy" through the years. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Pat Dean.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. Burial will follow at Montell Cemetery.
