Charles was born on January 11, 1930 to Gladys and Rufus Irwin in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He left this earth on March 6, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Ann Lee McGill Irwin, Daughter Claudia Mae Chisum, and 6 siblings: Juanita Irwin Moody, Wilma Irwin Hunt, Louis Irwin, Caroleen Irwin Jones, Darlene Irwin Stewart Galloway, and Winona Irwin Perrone. His last remaining sibling Wanda Irwin Thomas passed away two days after his death.
Chuck Served in United Stated Marine Corps during World War II. This afforded him the opportunity to experience many parts of Europe, including Malta, Sicily, and Italy where he had his first pizza pie. After the military he came back to the states where he landed a job with The Missouri Pacific Railway. He was a traveling Lineman who performed maintenance on the railway communication circuit. This job would eventually lead him to the small town of Crystal City where he would fall in love with a young waitress named Anna Lee who worked at the local Diner. They soon were married, and made their first move to Harlingen in the Valley. It was here that Chuck took a job with Central Power and Light Company. This was the beginning of a long career with CP&L that would take them all over South Texas making lifelong friends every step of the way.
In 1958 Chuck decided to go to college and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&I university in 1962. He was offered a job at the CP&L's Uvalde location where they would spend the next several years. They bought a small farm just North of Batesville, where they raised their daughters, and were very active in the local community. Chuck served on the school board, was an active volunteer in 4H, and proudly served as a deacon in the First Baptist Church of Batesville. While there was still a couple of transfers for work including Sinton and Corpus Christy, Batesville would finally become their permanent home in 1980. Chuck retired from CP&L in May of 1988. He spent his retirement years in his shop restoring old tractors and various farm equipment, traveling the United States with Anna Lee and their close friends and watching the grandkids grow up. He remained active in his community, and especially his church.
Chuck was a devoted husband to Anna Lee for 54 years, loving father, grandfather, Great Grandfather, Great Great Grandfather, and friend. He loved the Lord and often reminded anyone who would listen " you should always be doing something for the Lord". He was slow to anger, and always replied " love you more" at the end of a conversation. He was a devout Christian, and taught us well by his actions.
