Charles W. Newman, Jr., “Charlie”, age 89, of Knippa (formerly of Uvalde), passed away
August 9, 2020.
Charlie was born March 9, 1931, in Ambry, Illinois, the son of Annie Maude and Charles
W. Newman, Sr. He graduated from La Pryor High School in 1949. On July 14, 1951, he
married the love of his life, Maggie Lee Davis Newman.
Charlie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-inlaw,
uncle, cousin, and friend. Besides his family, his passion in life was the outdoors – fishing,
hunting and after retirement “farming”. A natural-born handy man, he was ready to help anyone
in need. He could fix anything.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, and all of his siblings – Georgie Gravell
Parker, David Newman, Pauline Newman Surginer and Myrtle (Tutti) Newman Crossland.
He is survived by his wife, Maggie Lee Davis Newman, of 69 years; and his children,
David Allen Newman (Kathy) of Junction, Henry Irvin Newman (Kathy) of Angleton, Charles
Wayne Newman (Judy) of Lytle, and Jan Newman Tschirhart (Bill) of Castroville, 11
grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, “adopted family” John and Hedwig Hardie, and many
nieces and nephews.
As Charlie wanted to be buried with Maggie Lee, services will not be held until she is
called to join him, then at that time, the family will celebrate both of their lives with all who
loved them.
