Charles (Papa) Randolph Raine of Uvalde passed away on December 9, 2019 at Uvalde Memorial Hospital at the age of 96. He was born on July 23, 1923 and spent his entire life in Uvalde, Texas. He is preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Margaret Raine, the love of his life.
Mr. Raine was an active member of First Baptist Church in Uvalde his entire life. He was faithful to take the Raine children to church every Sunday, being sure to sit on the back pew. He helped run Raines Insurance Agency, located at 104 E. Nopal Street, for over 60 years. He regularly, like clockwork, would walk to Rexall’s Drug Store for coffee. If he got a nickel for every cup of coffee he drank there; he would be millionaire
In 1941, he enlisted in the army like thousands of other young men to defend our country. He was shipped overseas and was stationed in England, France, and Germany. He crossed the English Channel a few weeks after D Day to help transport supplies. He was a sergeant of the mess hall and when asked why he chose to do that assignment, he said he didn’t want to wait in line to eat. His family was always so proud of him for his sacrifices for our country.
Mr. Raine was active in the Kiwani’s Club, Roadrunners Club, and other civic club thru the years.
He lived his live accordingly to the time on his watch; when he went to work, coffee breaks with his friends, going to the ranch, and riding his bike. If you wanted to know where or what Charles Raine (Papa) was doing, just check the time of day.
He is survived by his five children, Pallas Kitto and husband, Karl of Midland, Randall Davidson and husband, Bodie of Batesville, Charle Steward and husband, Bubba of Harper, Alicia Raine of Uvalde, Mason Raine and wife, Kathy of Weatherford; brother-in-law Sonny Newell and wife Kathryn of Ballinger; 9 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
