Charles R. Wimberley

September 12, 1933 — February 28, 2025

Uvalde

Charles Ralph “Charlie” Wimberley passed away on February 28, 2025, in Uvalde, Texas. He was born in Uvalde, Texas to Lloyd Ralph and Lettie Faye Bailey Wimberley on September 12, 1933. He married Alberta Colleen “Penny” Conger on August 4, 1955 in Uvalde, and enjoyed married life with her for over 66 years.

He graduated from Uvalde High School at the age of 16, and attended Southwest Texas Junior College. He was stationed at Camp Hanford in Walla Walla, Washington, during the Korean war. He worked for the Texas Highway Department in the engineering department, and retired after 40 years of service in various capacities. Among his many passions were hunting, fishing, trapping, arrowhead hunting, beekeeping, and gunsmithing. He never stopped pursuing new interests, and studying them until mastered. Family was everything to him, and he proudly wore the name Wimberley and loved to tell stories of his ancestors who founded the beautiful community of Wimberley, Texas. He sometimes looked around at the beauty of the earth and sky, and would ponder how anyone could not believe there was a God. He also loved to recite the lyrics to countless little “ditties” and rhymes, leaving us with a smile on our face.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Penny Wimberley, his parents, Ralph and Faye Wimberley, his sister Marjorie Bernice Moore, and his brother Marvin Douglas Wimberley.

He is survived by his daughter Sharon W. (Terry) Carson of Concan, Tommy (Donna) W. Wimberley of Cline, Johnny L. (Carla) Wimberley of Hondo, and Michael G. (Barbara) Wimberley of Hemphill; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Justin Wimberley, Weston Wimberley, Brandon Wimberley, Kevin Wimberley, Luke Haag, and grandson in-law Kyle Aaron.

Memorials may be given to the charity of one’s choice. The family wishes to extend our most heartfelt gratitude to our extended family at the Veranda, River Point Memory Care of Kerrville, and 214 Martin, for their loving care.
