Chester Dale Funderburg passed away on November 20, 2016 at Amistad Nursing Home at the age of 86. He was proceeded in death by his father, Evert James Funderburg, mother, Ethel McDonugh Funderburg, one brother, E. J. Funderburg, and three sisters, Elise Funderburg, Anna Lee Pruet, and Genevice Quinn.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ruth Funderburg. He is also survived by his step-son, Billy Kingston, wife Becky, and daughters, Amber Rogers, Barbara Reed, Rene Kingston, and Brandi Digger. Also survived by two sisters, Alice Uptergrove and Wanda Butts, and one brother James Funderburg all of Oklahoma. He leaves behind numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Chester was born March 5, 1931, Sayre, Oklahoma. He became a labor foreman for Parker Construction Company in Sayre and later enlisted in the U.S. Army, April 11, 1950 for three years. He trained in the airborne school, receiving his parachute badge. He entered engineering school, taking courses in demolition, at which time he was promoted to Sargent.
On May 29, 1964, he married Ruth Gable in Lubbock, Texas, and they resided there for four years. They moved to Amarillo, Texas where he worked for the Toledo Scale Company. In 1971, they moved to Uvalde, Texas and operated C.D.'s Scales on South Getty Street until his retirement in 1996. He received a 25 year commendation from Toledo Scale Company in Detroit for his service.
In his retirement years, he managed a pecan grove in Montell, Texas they had purchased. Many people in Uvalde were regular customers for his excellent pecans.
Graveside burial was held Monday, November 12, 2016, at Hillcrest Cemetery.
The family extends great appreciation to Amistad Nursing Home, Uvalde Memorial Hospital, and Uvalde Hospice Services for his care and support.
