Clinton William Bretzke of La Pryor passed away on August 22, 2009 in Amistad Nursing Home at the age of 90. He was born on May 27, 1919 in Guadalupe County, Texas to Harry and Julia Bretzke.
He married June Christine Steidinger on December 22, 1943 in Donna, Texas. He was in the service at the time. One year later, he served in the Calvary in the China-Burma-India Theatre in World War II. He was on the Burma Road with the 124th Calvary.
The couple moved to Uvalde in 1948 and then to La Pryor in 1950 where they started a dairy. They sold raw Grade A Milk, house to house in Uvalde, La Pryor, Crystal City and Carrizo Springs. They worked the dairy for 30 years while their children were growing up and attending school in La Pryor and college at Southwest Texas Junior College. It was truly a family business.
After running out of children to help in the dairy, Bretzke sold fresh vegetables in Uvalde and also began trapping wild hogs. He was also an avid deer hunter.
Bretzke was an active member of St, Jospeh's Catholic Church in La Pryor and later served as an usher at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Uvalde.
He is survived by four daughters; Kathryn Kathy Walker and husband, Dale of Uvalde, Texas; Sue Ellen Susie Dittlinger and husband, Ken of Round Rock, Texas; Julia Ann Jan Wiedenfeld and husband, Bill of San Angelo, Texas; and Mary Laura Kulak and husband, Lloyd of La Salle, Texas; two sons; Clinton William Bill Bretzke Jr. of Uvalde, Texas; and Robert Jacob Mark Bretzke and wife, Bonnie of Brownwood, Texas; three sisters; Ann Monnett of Round Rock, Texas; Evelyn Morgan of California; and Mildred Stearn of Brandon, Florida; twelve grandchildren; Seth Walker and wife, Shelly of Uvalde; Derek Walker and wife Jo Anna of Uvalde; Kelly Walker Schneemann and husband, Jason of DHanis; Shane Dittlinger of Round Rock; Jennifer McDaniel and husband, Bryan of Round Rock; Jeffery Wiedenfeld and wife, Lisa of San Antonio;Kristi Wiedenfeld of San Angelo; Charla Bretzke of Brownwood; Michael Bretzke and wife, Alex of Brownwood; Amy Bretzke of Brownwood; Ana Kulak of Houston; and Dustin Kulak of Kingsville; eight great- grandchildren; Cate and Westin Walker of Uvalde; Logan Walker of Uvalde; Lindsay, Dylan, and Katelyn McDaniel of Round Rock; Hailey Wiedenfeld of San Antonio; and Kayleigh Bretzke of Brownwood. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, June Bretzke, who died on September 12, 2005 and one son, Joseph Clinton Bretzke, who died on November 11, 1954 at the age of 9 months; brothers; Marvin Bretzke, Harold Bretzke, and Leslie Bretzke.
A rosary will be held on Wednesday at 7:00 PM at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel. Funeral services will be on Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial to follow in Uvalde Cemetery. Pallbearers will be six grandsons; Seth Walker, Derek Walker, Jeffery Wiedenfeld, Michael Bretzke, Dustin Kulak, and Shane Dittlinger. Honorary pallbearers will be six granddaughters; Kelly Walker Schneemann, Jennifer McDaniel, Kristi Wiedenfeld, Charla Bretzke, Amy Bretzke, and Ana Kulak.
