Consuelo Perez Gonzales, known affectionately as Mamo to those closest to her, died peacefully at Uvalde Healthcare and Rehab facility on Tuesday, July 29, 2014. Consuelo was born on February 28, 1925.
Family and friends were her passion and delight. She never met a stranger and was always willing to invite you into her home, offer you food, and make you feel welcomed. Mamo was an excellent cook and got much satisfaction when cooking for others. Her annual tradition was to make hundreds of dozens of tamales and share with friends and family during the holiday season. She always made time to make you feel special and loved. She worked many years as a nurses aide and cared for her patients in the same way she cared for her children.
On October 7, 1940, she married the love of her life, Vicente R. Gonzales Jr. They settled in Uvalde and started their large family. Consuelo is survived by her son Vicente P. Gonzales III and spouse Maria Guadalupe, their children Hector and Christine Gonzales, daughter Dedic Mancha and daughter Denise Adame, son Andres and spouse Esmeralda, and their children Andy Gonzales and Amanda Lara, son Roland, son Juan B. and spouse Rachel and their son John Paul Gonzales, daughter Catalina Criselda Flores spouse Fausto Flores III and their daughters Carmen Williams, Angela Piedras and Gabriella Flores, son Marco and his sons Roman and Andrew Gonzales. Great grand children, Lauren and Nathan Gonzalez, Joshua Adame, Esteban and Alejandro Gonzales, Ethan Lara, Zoey and Emma Piedras, Hunter Watkins and Dylan Williams. Preceded in death by her husband Vicente R. Gonzales Jr., grandson Frankie Mancha and soninlaw Frank Mancha.
Viewing will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2014 at RushingEstes Knowles Mortuary. The funeral service will begin at Rushing Estes Knowles at 10:00 am on Friday, August 1, 2014 followed by a church service at Templo Cristiano Church with Pastor Eddie De La Rosa officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to friends and caretakers Petra Flores, Juanita De La Garza, and Elida Gonzales who provided care and support during the final chapter of her life.
