Consuelo V. Salazar of Uvalde, known to her family and friends as Connie and Chelo, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2023, at her home at the age of 94.
She was born on August 31, 1928, in La Pryor, Texas to Lidia (Garcia) and Braulio M. Valle.
She grew up surrounded by her large family; she had 16 siblings and a lot of aunts and uncles. She was influenced by her parents to be a loving, caring woman and mother.
She married Vicente Salazar on March 26, 1955, in Illinois. They had five children; she was a dedicated mother first and foremost but the phrase “stay at home mom” didn’t exist with her. Connie always worked long and hard to care for her family and children. She was a great woman, daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend. She enjoyed gardening and enjoyed many family gatherings.
She is survived by two daughters, Irma Velos and husband, Raymond and Blanca Martinez and husband, Ezequiel all of Uvalde; two sons, Abel Salazar and Vincent Salazar, Jr. and wife, Alma all of Uvalde; two sisters, Amelia Avendaño of Uvalde and Diane White and husband, Billy of La Pryor; two brothers, Alfredo Valle and wife, Carmen of La Pryor and Humberto Valle and wife, Gloria of Elgin, Illinois; 12 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Vicente Salazar; son, Juan Francisco Salazar, grandson, Michael Salazar; two great grandchildren, Layla Marie Salazar and Jaelyn Jimenez; two sisters, Amanda Garcia, and Isabel Garcia, four brothers, Braulio Valle, Jr., Leopoldo Valle, Jose Valle and Ernesto Valle.
Visitation will begin on Friday, June 9, 2023, at 3 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. Interment will follow at La Pryor Cemetery.
