Dan "Baby" Saunders died peacefully in his Uvalde home Wednesday evening, February 7, at the age of 72.
Baby was born October 15, 1945 to the late Dan and Mary Saunders of Sabinal, Tx.
At the age of 4 he met his best friend and future wife, Jan Donoho and the two were inseparable until Jan's death in 2016. Jan and Dan were married August 26, 1967 in Sabinal. Together they travelled the country from Alaska to Florida where they trained and ran thoroughbred horses from 1968 until the late ‘80s. After returning to Texas, Jan and Dan owned and operated a hunting business from their ranch in Brackettville for a few years before starting a wholesale nursery business where they've worked together to produce beautiful oak trees, mountain laurels, palm trees, yuccas and more.
Whether it was training horses, working ranches, or growing nurseries, Jan and Dan were always together, laughing, enjoying each others company and living life to the fullest. Of all the great accomplishments that Baby was a part of, he was most proud of his children, Scotty and Kimberly and their grandchildren.
Baby was preceded in death by the love of his life, Jan and a daughter, Jennifer Jill. He is survived by his two children, Scott and Kim and his wonderful grandchildren.
A celebration of Baby's life will be held on Saturday, February 10, at 2:00 pm at St. Philips Episcopal Church in Uvalde, the Rev. Scott Brown officiating. A private burial at Waresville Cemetery in Utopia, will precede the memorial service. Following the service, the family will host a reception at Baby and Jan's nursery in Uvalde.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dan's name to the charity of your choice.
