David R. White, Jr.

David Rheiner White, Jr. of Uvalde, Texas passed away on July 20, 2023, at the age of 76. He was born on September 18, 1946, in Uvalde, Texas to David and Louise Medaris White. He married Janet Stuart in 1971 in Oak Grove, Mississippi. He graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a degree in business in 1967 and then obtained a Doctorate in Jurisprudence from St. Mary's University in 1973. David turned down jobs in big cities to move back to Uvalde to take over the practice of law from his father. He would go on to practice for more than 45 years, including proudly serving as the Uvalde County Attorney for over 15 years. 

He is survived by his wife Janet of Uvalde; sons Dr. David "Cliff" White and wife, Anabel of Uvalde; Stuart and his wife Shannon, of Corpus Christi; Brandon and his wife Crystal of Houston; and daughter Torie of San Antonio. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Chandler Schermerhorn; Sofia and Fiona White; Jaxon Curb; Bellamy and Beckett White; David, William and Ellie White. He is also survived by sisters Betty Sue Arledge of Abilene, and Sandra Templer of San Antonio. David is preceded in death by his parents and his older sister Medaris Oliveri. 

He enjoyed living and raising his family in Uvalde. He helped start the youth soccer league in Uvalde and when he was not coaching his children and the other children in youth sports, he loved spending time outdoors hunting, golfing, and fishing.  

He was a stern and principled man but one that loved a good laugh where you might find him sitting on Santa’s lap or wearing cutoff sleeve shirt. He loved his wife, Janet, with all his heart. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. David and Janet loved to travel and did not miss an opportunity to travel to visit their children. 

David was very involved in First United Methodist Church, and along with Janet, made sure their children were raised in the church, and that brings the family comfort knowing David is in heaven now and has been restored.

David will be remembered for giving to others his time and his mind without asking for much of anything ever in return. He prided himself on being an honest and hardworking man that would help those in need.

He will be laid to rest at the family’s ranch in a private ceremony. There will be a celebration of life on November 11, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Uvalde Methodist Church.
