Dayse Love Elrod, 97, a long-time resident of Uvalde, Texas died peacefully on February 9, 2022, at the Veranda Senior Living surrounded by her sons, Jed, Cody, Ben, and daughter, Lindy. She was born in Luling, Texas on November 16, 1925, to Evelyn (Mangum) and Ivy Adams.
A celebration of her long life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Uvalde, Texas followed by a brief graveside service at the La Pryor Cemetery, where she will join her beloved husband, Dardus, of 57 years. They were high school sweethearts, marrying on February 28, 1944. Raising her five children and caring for family and friends was “Miss Dayse’s” or “Mamoo’s” main priority. She and her husband were influential in many young lives outside their own family, especially John Walts of Utopia, Texas and Edgar Byfield of Bogota, Columbia, South America, who they considered as sons.
Dayse was a passionate fisherman, she loved fishing, whether it be located at a dirt stock tank on a ranch, a lake, or a large body of salt water. She was also an accomplished artist, as witnessed by the many paintings adorning her home.
In her later years, family and friends could find her avidly watching football and basketball on television, especially the San Antonio Spurs. At age 90, she attended her first (and only) professional basketball game and was given a game t-shirt by “Coyote”, the Spurs mascot.
She is survived by her three sons, Jed Elrod and wife, Susan of Stockdale, Texas, Cody Elrod of Uvalde, Texas, Ben Elrod and wife, Chris of Uvalde, Texas and one daughter, Lindy Elrod and husband, Pat Phillips of Brownwood, Texas; 13 grandchildren, Derek Elrod and wife, Allyson, Adam Elrod and wife, Lacy, Brandon Elrod, Casey Elrod, Lance Elrod and wife, Tessa, Audra Elrod, Kalia Martin and husband, Brandon, Justin House, Chesley House, Kennan Dishman and wife Tess, Doug Phillips, Matt Phillips and Trent Elrod; and 19 great-grandchildren, Emma Elrod, Jimmy Elrod, Trevor Elrod, Abigail Elrod, Phoebe Elrod, Isaac Elrod, Ivy Elrod, McKenna Elrod, Holden Elrod, Gaige Elrod, Kylie Elrod, Kayla Elrod, Landon Elrod, Fischer Elrod, Duke Elrod, Pierce Elrod, Levi Martin,Tanner Martin and Patton Phillips.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dardus Elrod, son, William Elrod, and two granddaughters, Jena Elrod and Charlie (Phillips) Roberts.
The family will greet visitors at 1:30 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church on Sunday, February 13, 2022 in Uvalde, Texas. Interment will follow at La Pryor Cemetery. Gini Norris-Lane will officiate, and Toni Hull will be the pianist.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons..
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or El Progresso Memorial Library.
