Demetrio Vela

Demetrio Vela of Uvalde passed away on January 5, 2018 at his residence at the age of 66. He was born on December 19, 1951 in Ciudad Acuna, Cohuila, Mexico to Ramon Vela and Ignacia Lopez Vela. He married Rosantina Rodriguez in Uvalde on November 20, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 18 years; six daughters, Virginia Vela, Rosemary Valdez Cantu, Francisca V. Gonzalez, and Olga Cardoza, all of Uvalde; Linda Sanchez of Seguin, and Crystal Carbajal of Camp Wood; two sons, Santos Valdez and Robert Valdez, both of Uvalde; two brothers, Jose Vela of Spofford and Reyes Montoya of Anacacho Ranch, near Spofford; 31 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Genaro Montoya; and sisters, Librada De Leon, Maria Eresmi Aguirre, and Irma Soto. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 10 am at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary with burial to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Mr. Ben Padilla will officiate.
