Dianne Elizabeth Craig was born in Uvalde, Texas, July 22, 1944, the daughter of James Ellis Craig and Cecile Johnson Craig. She passed away in her home at Canyon Lake, Texas, surrounded by her family, on May 15, 2015. Dianne graduated from Uvalde High School in 1962. She played first chair cornet in the band, served as cartoonist for the Coyote Times paper, received the DAR Good Citizenship Award, was a member of the National Honor Society, and was honored as a National Merit Scholarship finalist. After graduation she attended Southwestern University and The University of Texas at Austin, completing an undergraduate degree in art and a master's degree in journalism from UT. While there she worked as a teaching assistant in the UT art department, as a researcher for the Hogg Foundation, and as assistant editor of the "Social Science Quarterly" published by the University of Texas Press. She later worked as a research librarian for Huffco Oil Company in Houston before relocating to California, where she took pride in her job as a photographer and reporter for the San Francisco Bay Guardian. A voracious reader from childhood, Dianne could discuss in detail almost any topic, from gardening to music to quantum physics. Multi-talented, she had a brilliant mind, unlimited interests, and a lifelong fascination with learning. Dianne was preceded in death by her parents and by three husbands: Joe Henderson of Uvalde, Larry Lewis of Kerrville, and Andrew Sichi of San Antonio. She is survived by her daughter, Jean Brannum (Chris Fishlock-Lomax) of Uvalde; her grandson, Eddie Brannum (Kim Eagle) of Uvalde; her sister, Janie Morrison (Wade) of San Antonio; and cousins Jan Graves Pollard of San Antonio and Tom Graves (Merriel) of Anchorage, Alaska. She is also survived by much-loved members of her father's family, Mr. John Mercer and daughter Beth of Atlanta, Georgia, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Cooper, Jr., and family of Hurst, Texas. Immediate family only will honor Dianne at graveside, in accordance with her wishes. The family suggests that donations in Dianne's memory be made to the El Progreso Memorial Library, 301 W. Main Street, Uvalde, TX 78801 or to Humane Society of Uvalde, 127 S. Camp Street.
