Dorothy Jane "Dot" Howard, age 90 of Sabinal, Texas, passed away on March 1, 2024. She was born on February 5, 1934, in Sabinal, Texas. Dorothy graduated from Sabinal High School and attended Texas Christian University, following the tradition of her mother and finished her education degree at Southwest Texas State University. Dorothy, known to many as Dot, was a beloved educator and teacher for 47 years, teaching everything from Homemaking to Kindergarten. She dedicated 28 years of her career to Meyers Elementary School, Hondo, Texas, where she nurtured and educated countless five-year-olds. After retiring from teaching, she earned her real estate license and dabbled in real estate for a few years.
Dorothy was a vibrant and busy individual who enjoyed cooking and spoiling her beloved husband of 68 years, David Howard. She took pride in serving well-balanced meals coordinated around whatever sporting event David was watching on television. For pot-luck dinners, her specialty side-dish was potato salad. She loved going on weekend excursions with friends and attending cattle sales and sporting events with David. Dorothy was a devoted member of the Central Christian Church in Sabinal, Texas where she found solace and community.
In her personal life, Dorothy is survived by her daughter Carol Howard White (Tommy) of Blackwell, TX and her grandchildren Tana White Gibbs (Anthony) and Travis Howard White (Elizabeth). She was also a loving great-grandmother to Makinlee, Addison Gibbs, Weylyn, Crockett, and Alyvia. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, David Howard, and her parents Carol P. Arnim and Janie Mae Giffin.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate Dorothy's life will be held at Central Christian Church, Sabinal, TX, on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Central Christian Church, 516 N Center St, Sabinal, TX 78881, or Sabinal Cemetery Association, PO Box 104, Sabinal TX 78881.
Dorothy Jane "Dot" Howard will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
