Douglas Averill

Douglas Averill, longtime resident of Uvalde, passed away on April 1, 2019 at his residence in Bastrop at the age of 57.  He was born on May 16, 1961 in Laredo to Vanita (Carpenter) and James Herbert Averill.  Doug graduated from Uvalde High School in 1979.  He enjoyed collecting antiques, and decorating for holidays with his niece and nephew.  He loved caring for the elderly, and was devoted to caring for his parents in their final years.  Doug is survived by his sister, Susan Shoemaker and husband, Jeff of Fair Oaks Ranch; nephew, Ryan Shoemaker; and niece, Kendall Shoemaker.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Uvalde with burial to follow in Sabinal Cemetery.  Rev. Tony Gruben will officiate.  Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
