Earl Andrew Backor was born on July 24, 1926 in Crystal City, Texas to Olga and Stephen Andrew Backor.
He died at the age 91 on June 28, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas.
He graduated high school in Crystal City in 1943.
Earl married the love of his life, Shirley May Moore, on September 4, 1947.
In his early life, he was an Eagle Scout and later became a scout master. He worked as a welder for more than 70 years. He was still welding and cutting down trees at 90 years old. He loved what he did and always felt highly blessed to be able to continue to work in his yard and in his shop up until he left the earth. Anyone who knew him knew how important his "projects" were to him. He always had one more left. He loved his family and his friends and was often heard to say how blessed he was by the people in his life. His sense of humor and welcoming spirit were known by many. Anyone who visited with him for any length of time was more than likely to become a friend to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Shirley, and his brother, Ben Backor.
He is survived by his children and their families; Dorothy Brady of San Antonio, Beth Hammer and her husband Don of Hobbs NM; son Steve and wife Karen of Kerrville; daughter Kathleen Zadik of Natalia, son Ricky Backor of Temple; Son Paul Backor and wife Jeanie of Hondo; daughter Barbie Hoffman of Uvalde; daughter Sharon Vaughan and husband Jeff of Uvalde; and daughter Karen McLaughlin and husband Don Jr. of Uvalde.
He was blessed by 23 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
He is also survived by one sister, Mary Longbrake and her husband Tom; one brother in law, Jack Moore and his wife Tinker and one sister in law, Mary Jean Kilpatrick. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved.
Honorary pallbearers will be his dear friends, Charlie Romans, Larry Truelove, Jimmy Crawford, Joe Parker, Robert Stonecipher, Tim Ligocky, his sons in laws and his grandsons.
A rosary will be held on Monday, July 2, 2018 at 7:00 PM at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Cremation was under the direction of Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.
In Earl's spirit of taking care of others, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any children's hospital or charity of one's choice.
