Edgar Habeck

Graveside services for Col. Edgar J. Habeck, USA Ret. will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday March 14, 2010, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Uvalde, Texas.

Edgar was born May 15, 1931 to Dr. Edgar A. Habeck and Edna K. Habeck in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He went to be with his beloved savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday, March 7, 2010 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Christopher John Habeck.

A graduate of Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois, he also received a
Doctorate of Social Work from Catholic University in Washington, D. C.

While with the U.S. Army he served in various behavioral health clinics and hospitals, both in the United States and overseas. At the conclusion of his military career he directed the behavioral science division for the Army Medical Command at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas and oversaw all clinics in the continental United States, Panama, Puerto Rico and the Pacific Islands. He was recipient of numerous awards and citations including the Legion of Merit. He retired from active service in 1984.

He served on the board of directors of The Caring Place in Georgetown, Texas and on the board of directors of the Kiwanis Club of Padre Island, Texas. He was a Mason. He attended the Island Presbyterian Church, Padre Island, Texas. He enjoyed hunting and fishing all his life.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Phyllis Jo Davenport Habeck of Corpus Christi, Texas, formerly of Uvalde, Texas a brother, Fred Habeck and his wife Isabel of Hobe Sound, Florida two sons, Edgar Habeck and his wife Karen of Hinesville, Georgia Mark Habeck and his wife Susan of Ardmore, Oklahoma a niece, Deborah Ann Habeck of Rolling Meadows, Illinois grandchildren, Nicole Habeck, Emily Habeck, Katherine Habeck and John Habeck stepchildren Cody Davenport and wife Yvonne of Uvalde, Texas Thea Manuel and husband Sean of Decatur, Texas Brett Witte and wife Lindsey of Houston, Texas step grandchildren Terrell and Seth Davenport, Dryden and Gage Frank, Carley Manuel, and Cade and Jake Witte.
