Edith Edie Barnett Huddleston, fourth generation Texan and Daughter of the Texas Revolution, passed away at her home in Uvalde, Thursday, June 2nd , 2011. She was born to Bowie Monroe Barnett and Frieda Miles Barnett August 26th 1927 in San Antonio . She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Benton Miles Barnett. She leaves behind her beloved husband of sixtyfive years Dr. C.H. Dusty Huddleston, DVM, and four children, William Ellis Will Huddleston and wife Elizabeth McAninch of San Francisco, CA, Holly Huddleston Smith and husband Ty, and Bob Barnett Huddleston and wife Beth of San Antonio, Michael Miles Huddleston and wife Karen of Uvalde. Edie had eight grandchildren, James C. Huddleston of San Francisco, Rosalyn Rosie Huddleston of New York City, Miles Smith of Perth, Australia, Dustin Smith of Austin, Don Huddleston and wife Elizabeth, and Henry Huddleston of San Antonio, Ben Huddleston of Uvalde, and Annie Huddleston Seiler and husband Scott of Silver Spring, MD. Edith loved her many friends, the Frio River , twostep dancing, and her Texas roots. She was a talented writer and speaker who knew her Hill Country and canyon history and made sure her children and grandchildren were wellschooled in their heritage. She served her community well for many years on the Arts Council, Genealogical Society, Garner Museum Board, and the Uvalde County Historical Commission where she was recognized by the Texas State Historical Commission for her role in restoring and preserving the Uvalde Grand Opera House. She also played a key role in establishing the new El Progreso Library. A member of the First Presbyterian Church she was for many years a Sunday school teacher and an Elder.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, June 6, 2011 at 9:30 AM in Uvalde Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 6, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the First Presbyterian Church. Pallbearers will be Ben Huddleston, James Huddleston, Don Huddleston, Henry Huddleston, Scott Seiler, and Nathan Smith. Honorary pallbearer will be Miles Smith. Memorial donations may be made to the El Progreso Memorial Library, 301 W. Main St., Uvalde, TX 78801 Uvalde Hospice, 124 Royal Lane, Uvalde, TX 78801 or the 1st Presbyterian Church, 300 N. Getty St., Uvalde, TX 78801.
