Elida Garcia Cardenas, 92, of Uvalde, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2024, at St. Luke's Hospital in San Antonio.
Born on July 8, 1932, in Uvalde to Teresa (Gonzales) and Nestor R. Garcia, Elida lived a remarkable life marked by her unwavering love for her family.
She married Rodolfo Cardenas on May 24, 1953, in Uvalde, Texas.
She is survived by three daughters, Rosie Leal of Uvalde, Rachel Aguirre of San Antonio, and Rebecca Cardenas of Uvalde, and one son, Rolando Cardenas (Rebecca), of Colmesneil. Elida was a proud grandmother to Omar Arrellano, Rigoberto Arrellano, Monica Arrellano, Erica Vasquez, Patricia Mascorro, Jay Herrera, Mathew Herrera, Jesse Herrera, Victoria Ortega, Jenelle Elizondo, Isaiah Cardenas, Priscilla Leal, and Agustine Leal, III; great-grandchildren, Alexis Herrera, Jayson Herrera, Aleighna Herrera, Layson Felan, Josh Guajardo, Mya Arellano, Michael Arellano, Miranda Arellano, Anastasia Velasquez, Johnathan Velasquez, Jaslyn Velasquez, Elena Vasquez, Lily Mascorro, Luke Mascorro, Lucia Mascorro, Therese Mascorro, Noah Herrera, Delilah Rodriguez, Josiah Villarreal, and Ezekiel Villarreal and numerous nieces, and nephews who will cherish her memory.
Elida was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Rodolfo Cardenas; their infant son, Rodolfo Cardenas Jr.; and great grandson, Rigoberto Arellano, Jr.
Visitation is scheduled to begin on Monday, November 18, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., continuing through Tuesday, November 19, and Wednesday, November 20, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a rosary recited each evening at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jay Herrera, Mathew Herrera, Omar Arrellano, Jayson Herrera, Joe Aguirre and Roland Cardenas
Elida will be remembered for her kind spirit and the love she shared with all who knew her. Her legacy will continue to live on through her family and the many lives she touched.
