Eliza U. Morales

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maria Eliza U. Morales, at the venerable age of 99, on September 19, 2024. A cherished resident of San Antonio, Eliza (Licha) will forever be remembered as a beloved matriarch and pillar of strength for her family and community, having previously lived in Uvalde, Texas.

Licha was born on February 22, 1925, to Maximina (Zepeda) and Refugio Uriegas in Uvalde. From a young age, she demonstrated a remarkable resilience, qualities she carried throughout her long and fulfilling life. Those who loved her knew her as a courageous soul, dedicated to her family, always offering them support with her unique wisdom.

She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, sang in the church choir and was a devote member of La Vela Perpetua, dedicating her time to both her community and her faith. Licha retired from Uvalde Senior Center as a head cook at age 83.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation, which will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 1 p.m. A rosary will follow at 6:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. The celebration of her life will continue with a funeral Mass on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
