Elizabeth Teed

May 3, 1921 — March 8, 2016

Elizabeth Ager Teed passed away peacefully on March 8, 2016. She was born on May 3, 1921. She is survived by her five children: Andrena (Nigel Rollo), Elspeth, Mariner, Robina, Lionel (Wendy), and her eight grandchildren: David (Rena), Catriona (Devin), Matthew, Caitlin, Patrick, Katie, Jonathan and Deniz. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Hugh Mariner Teed, and her brother Ernest Richard Nash Ager. Elizabeth lived a full, rich, well-travelled life. After she graduated from Saint John High School, she moved, with work, to Ottawa, where she was employed initially as a book-keeper, and then as a statistician. When her children were older, she worked as a medical office administrator for many years. Elizabeth developed her artistic talents through tailoring and fabric arts such as quilting, knitting, embroidery and needlepoint. She loved the arts, especially classical music, and was in regular attendance at ballets, symphony concerts, and operas. She was an active member, often holding executive positions, of many organisations including Lions Club International, the Medical Secretaries Association, and Anglican Church Women. While raising her family, Elizabeth volunteered on several community organisations such as the Parent Teacher Association. Because of her husband's work in the Canadian Forces, the family moved to several locations in Canada and Europe. Her innate skill with languages revealed itself during the posting to 3-wing, Germany. It served her well during her travels when she immersed herself in local culture, and during her work as a medical administrator when speaking several languages helped her serve the patients more effectively. Elizabeth was a lively, gregarious woman. She welcomed her children's friends with open arms, making them feel at home in her home, especially during their teen years when another adult's guidance was so necessary for their personal growth and development. She loved to travel, loved to dance, enjoyed parties, was renowned for hosting fabulous events, and played a very good game of bridge. She travelled through most of the Canadian provinces, several of the American states, much of western Europe and parts of southern Africa. Trips to Fair Isle, her maternal ancestral home, were travel high-points. She inspired her children and grandchildren to love the arts like she did. Several of her grandchildren are involved with the arts, in one form or another. That is her legacy to them. Some are also very skilled with textile and fabric arts, also her legacy. Those two interests, plus a love of languages, travel, and family history are all links the next generations have with Elizabeth. Positively influencing three generations of her family is indeed a commendable feat, and Elizabeth did that quietly, with love as her main
