Enid E. "Jean" Tidwell of Uvalde passed away on February 21, 2018 at Veranda Living at the age of 91. She was born on July 13, 1926 in Del Rio, Texas to James and Enid Cantrell Sprott.
She married Floyd A. "Pete" Tidwell in Uvalde, Texas on July 21, 1948. She is survived by one sister, Mattie Bates of San Angelo, three children, Walter Tidwell and wife, Connie of Uvalde, Amy Reagan and husband, Larry of Ballinger and Jon Tidwell and wife, Lizabeth of Uvalde. Grandchildren, Lauri Ruckman and husband Tim, Kati Briley and husband Ronnie, Justin Tidwell and wife Karisa, Emily Tidwell, Miranda Schawe and husband Daniel, Michael Tidwell and Kristin Coggins, Steven McNew and wife Annabel, Maggie Wilborn and husband Bryan. Great grandchildren; Reagan Briley, Brook, Riley, and Ashlyn Tidwell, Gracen, Micah and Layla Ruckman, Wally and Mary Ellen McNew, and Barbara Ann Willborn.
Jean received her registered nurses license in 1946. She was Director of Nursing at Uvalde Memorial Hospital, helped establish and taught LVN nursing at Southwest Texas Junior College, was a surgical nurse and worked in the office of Dr. Dean P. Dimmitt. Toward the end of her career she worked as an industrial nurse for Gensco Pipe and Steel in Uvalde.
She received the humanitarian of the year award in 2013 from the Order of the Sons of Herman of Texas for "acts of kindness and benevolence shown within her community".
She attended 9th St. Church of Christ in Ballinger until she moved to Uvalde.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Justin Tidwell, Michael Tidwell, Steven McNew, Tim Ruckman, Ronnie Briley and Reagan Briley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Jensen, Bryan Wilborn, Weston Robertson, Micah Ruckman, Gacen Ruckman, Larry Reagan, and Daniel Schawe.
