Evangelina "Nena" Overstreet of Uvalde passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021 at Uvalde Memorial Hospital at the age of 93.
Evangelina was born on April 23, 1927 in Uvalde, Texas to Celso and Elvira (Vara) Uriegas.
Evangelina is survived by three daughters, Maria Garcia of Santa Ana, Calif., Norma Gonzalez and husband Ignacio of Tuscan, Arizona and Dolores Rodriguez husband James of Great Falls, Montana; four sons, Mario Talavera and wife Diamantina, Hector Talavera and wife Elia, Leo Talavera and wife Becky all of Uvalde and Raul Talavera of Tucson, Arizona; two sisters, Martha Luna of Uvalde and Dolores “Lola” Bermea of La Pryor; brother, Jose Uriegas of Austin; 23 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband Herman Overstreet, son Gilbert Talavera, sister Anita Rodriquez and two brothers, Alejandro Uriegas, Raul Uriegas, and Celso Uriegas.
Visitation will start on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 12:00 pm at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A rosary will be recited on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Leo Talavera, Mario Talavera, Hector Talavera, Jr. Tyler Talavera, Gilbert Talavera, Willie Moreno, Ignacio Gonzalez, and Javier Heredia.
