Fernando R. Mendoza, "Fernie", "Fernie !", "Fern", "Fregandito", "Superhero", "Dad"
Was reunited with our Lord and his Father, Teodoro Mendoza; Mother, Eusebia Mendoza; Sister, Sylvia Mendoza and Brother, Teodoro Mendoza at Uvalde Memorial Hospital on January 24th 2022 at the age of 70.
He is survived by his wife, Diana Carreon Mendoza of Uvalde, Texas, daughter, Amanda A. Mendoza of Houston, Texas; sister, Sandra Galvan (Jesse) of Uvalde, Texas; brother, Johnny Mendoza (Dina) of Uvalde, Texas; brother, Joe Mendoza (Cindy) of Uvalde, Texas, and sister, Lupe Ibarra (Daniel) of Uvalde, Texas. Fernando's nieces and nephews. Step son, Jose Mejia (Nichole) and step-granddaughters Joselyn, Audrey, Brinley and Evelyn all of Abilene, Texas.
He was born on March 31st, 1951 to Teodoro Mendoza and Eusebia Mendoza in Matehuala, San Luis Potosí then later resided in Uvalde, TX. Fernando served faithfully and honorably in the United States Army in 1971, joined the Army National Guard in 1975, and earned the title of Battle Force Instructor in 1996; as well as earning several medals and honors throughout his career. SSG Fernando R. Mendoza retired as Staff Sergeant in 2011.
He was a devout and loving father and he had a passion for his work in the military, he enjoyed dancing to Tejano music, adored his family, and he looked forward to time outdoors, hunting and fishing. Fernando grew closer to God and he was committed to studying the bible and prayer with his wife. Many people know and call him "Fernie !" and they carry fond memories of him; he touched the lives of many people by sharing his enthusiasm for life, his kindness, infectious smile, and so much more. He took care of all of his family members and looked out for them, he didn't want anyone left behind. Fernando will be truly and deeply missed by his wife Diana, daughter, Amanda Mendoza, his brothers and sisters, extended family, friends and all who knew him.
Funeral Mass will be held Friday, February 4th 2022 at 10 a.m. Visitation will begin on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 4, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Joe Mendoza, David Canales, Daniel Ibarra, Joaquin Ibarra , Jesse Galvan, Joey Mendoza, and Jose Mejia.
