Francisco Olivarez Jr. of Uvalde passed away on September 26, 2017 at Audie Murphy Veteran's Hospital in San Antonio at the age of 66.
He was born on October 13, 1950 in Uvalde to Francisco and Bessie Mae (Perkins) Olivarez.
He married Teodora Flores in Uvalde on June 5, 1999.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years of Uvalde; daughters, Elsa Rincones and Sandra Rincones, both of Uvalde, Jessica Arriola Olivarez of Texas and Tammie Olivarez of California; sons, Fernando Rincones and Rafael Rincones both of Uvalde; sister, Juanita Olivarez of Uvalde; brothers, Hector Olivarez and wife, Mary and John McDonald and wife, Irma, all of Uvalde; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A rosary will be held on Saturday and Sunday at 7:00p.m.at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, October 2, 2017, at 11:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Fernando Rincones, Rafael Rincones, Gail Rincones, Trinity Arriola, Isaiah Arriola, John Anthony Olivarez, Nina Gomez, and Hector Olivarez.
Mr. Olivarez was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served in combat as a U.S. Marine where he earned several medals which include National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Purple Heart. His military career also extended in serving as a helicopter instructor in Iran. Some of his military ranks included Gunnery Sergeant, Corporal and Warrant Officer. The discipline and patriotism he attained in the Marines encompassed his life.
Aside from his military career he taught as a math teacher for Hondo School District. Mr. Olivarez was family oriented and a generous man who would help those in need. His guidance in doing so was his faith in God. He will be missed and loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
