Frank Carrasco, Jr., 93, passed away February 18, 2015 at his home on 214 Martin Street, Uvalde, TX.
He was born October 21, 1921, to Isabell & Frank Carrasco in Bisbee, Arizona, during The Depression times. He was one of five boys and three girls. His father worked in the Copper Mines and his mother was a housewife.
Frank attended Bisbee High School, where he dropped out in the tenth grade due to his father's health to help support the family. At the age of 18, after his father's release from the hospital, he joined the Air Force in 1941 at Kelly Field in San Antonio.
In 1942, he was stationed at the Hondo Air Force Base. It was there he met Ada, the love of his life.
Frank and Ada married January 30, 1943. Frank was then shipped overseas the same year to England with a bombing squadron.
Frank then spent one Hitch in the 3rd Army, 90th Division under General George Patton where he fought as a Platoon Lead in a Heavy Weapon Company through Germany and Czechoslovakia. He returned to the United States in 1945 after the war in Europe and reenlisted in the Air Force to spend an additional 2 years in Japan.
After four Hitches in the Air Force and one Hitch in the Army, Frank resigned for a total of 15 years of service. After his retirement, he began a career in the ranching business.
In addition to his career, he has been involved in many civic organizations. He has been President of AARP, President of the Uvalde Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Commander of the American Legion Post 26, and a member of the Men's Sunday School Class at the First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and two brothers, one son-in-law, Burke Clement, and one grand-daughter, Misty Raines.
He is survived by his wife Ada Carrasco of 72 years, brothers Bob Carrasco of Boulevard, CA, Bill Carrasco of Surprise, AZ, sister-in-law Adell Burger of Uvalde, TX, three daughters Joyce Raines and husband, Jimmie of Uvalde, TX, Ada Clement, Mont Belvieu, TX, Raydean Moore and husband, Terry of Wimberley, TX, and eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one great-great grand-daughter.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Hondo, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Uvalde or the charity of your choice.
Pallbearers will be Brad Moore, Josh Moore, Logan Moore, Zach Clement, Marty Massey, and Jake Massey. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Lucas, Ben Harp, Jerome Gold, and Charles Lemon.
