Gene Howard Schaefer of Uvalde passed away on June 23, 2020, at Uvalde Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 82. He was born on June 24, 1937, in Uvalde to Albert Earl Schaefer and Bertie Pearl Guess. Gene had a love for horses and dogs, particularly his dog Spot, which was never far from his side. He wore his cowboy hat pushed back on his head, welcoming conversation. He is survived by his daughter Mary Gayline Hoermann and husband, Lloyd of Jarrell; sisters, Rosalie Taylor of San Antonio, Lynda Hocker of Uvalde; granddaughter, Brandy Hoermann Bryan and husband, Matt, grandson Jason Hoermann and wife, Brittany Sladecek-Hoermann; great-grandchildren, Axel Bryan, Ava Hoermann, and Emma Hoermann, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Orene Clayton; brothers Raymond Schaefer and Pete Schaefer and his best friend, Margaret Sparks.
Per Gene's request, there will be no memorial service.
Cremation is under the direction of Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.
